Rusty
Rusty (along with Star) are currently the youngest horses at Heads Up. Rusty turned ten on August 2, 2001. Rusty has been with Heads Up two years and was donated by Richard and Michelle Colavin of Castaic, California. Rusty started his career as an "endurance riding" horse. These are rides of 25 - 100 miles. Unfortunately, Rusty has a condition that prevents him from meeting long ride goals. But at Heads Up his condition is not a problem. Rusty is ½ Mustang and ½ Arabian. An unusual combination for a therapy horse. He has wonderful movement of gaits (walk-trot-cantor), riding Rusty is like driving an expensive car! At first he did not understand what his new job was all about. So, he had to learn. He found that the trainers at Heads Up were very patient and kind, and he learned quickly. He enjoys learning very much. Now he works for riders with any disability, and serves several independent riders. He also loves to play with toys. He and Morgan are toy buddies.
