Couples Therapy and Marriage Counselling
in Windsor, Berkshire and Online

Couples therapy gives you space to stop repeating the same pattern, understand what is really happening between you and work out what needs to change, whether that means rebuilding the relationship or making clearer decisions about the future.

Why couples therapy and marriage counselling matter

Most couples do not come for help the first time something feels wrong.

They carry on. They avoid the harder conversations. They hope things will settle. They tell themselves it is just stress, work, children, money or a bad patch.

Sometimes that is true. Sometimes it is not.

Over time, the same arguments keep coming back. One person shuts down. The other pushes harder. Resentment builds. Trust gets damaged. You may still love each other, but the relationship starts to feel heavy, tense or disconnected.

Couples therapy is not about blaming one person or sitting in a room pretending everything is fine. It is about getting honest about what is happening, what each person is bringing to the relationship and what needs to change if things are going to move forward.

Common reasons couples seek therapy

Couples therapy and marriage counselling can help when communication, trust or connection has started to break down.

This may include:

  • Ongoing arguments or silent tension

  • Poor communication or feeling unheard

  • Infidelity, betrayal or trust issues

  • Emotional withdrawal or lack of intimacy

  • Feeling more like flatmates than partners

  • One person feeling unseen, unappreciated or emotionally alone

  • Stress from children, work, menopause, retirement or other life changes

  • Conflict around money, parenting, family or future plans

  • Considering separation but unsure how to move forward

Therapy does not have to be the last stop before everything falls apart. Sometimes it is the first proper conversation you have had in a long time.

How couples therapy works

Couples therapy gives both people the chance to speak properly, listen properly and start understanding the relationship from a clearer place.

We look at what is being said, what is not being said and what keeps happening underneath the surface. That may include old resentment, poor boundaries, unmet needs, stress, fear, defensiveness, emotional shutdown or the way each person reacts when they feel criticised, ignored or rejected.

The work can help you:

  • Understand each other’s needs, triggers and patterns

  • Break out of destructive communication habits

  • Rebuild trust and connection where possible

  • Set clearer boundaries

  • Deal with resentment instead of burying it

  • Navigate difficult decisions around separation, children, finances or the future

  • Communicate with more honesty and less blame

This is not about forcing you to stay together. It is about helping you see the relationship clearly enough to decide what is healthy, realistic and possible.

Couples therapy options

Couples therapy can take place online or in person, depending on what works best for you.

Some sessions may involve both of you together. Sometimes it is more useful to work with one person separately, then the other, before bringing the work back together. That does not mean taking sides. It means looking properly at what each person is carrying, avoiding or repeating.

The structure depends on what is happening, how much tension there is and what outcome you are working towards.

The work is personal, but it is not vague. We focus on what is happening, what needs to change and what each of you is prepared to do differently.

Why work with me?

Chris Gibson Therapist Windsor.webp

I bring together therapy, performance coaching, stress management, relationship support and real-world experience. My approach is calm, direct and practical. I will listen properly, but I will also challenge the patterns that keep you going round in circles.

Couples therapy is not about polite conversations that avoid the truth. We look at what is actually happening, what is driving the conflict and what needs to change if the relationship is going to move forward.
